Belleville Police Service is formally asking the Ontario government for emergency funding to cover mounting costs from the Sons of Jacob Synagogue shooting.
Police officials say the response and ongoing investigation have pushed expenses far beyond their standard operating budget.
As of October 20, the service has logged over $102,000 in immediate costs, largely driven by police overtime.
Seventy-one officers have recorded nearly 990 overtime hours for scene security, forensic analysis, and specialized unit coverage.
The financial toll is expected to climb higher as outstanding bills arrive from outside police services.
Officers from Kingston, Cobourg, and the OPP were brought in to help secure the community and maintain staffing levels.
Expenses for damaged police cruisers are also pending, including one vehicle that was declared a total loss.
In a letter to the province, the police board warned that these costs will place an unfair burden on local property taxpayers if left unassisted.
The board is now urging the Ministry of the Solicitor General to provide provincial relief under the Community Safety and Policing Act.
Police representatives say they are ready to meet with ministry officials to present a full accounting of all operational expenses.
