Things are trending in the right direction within the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board, but there is still a lot of work to do.
On Tuesday, Superintendent Tina Elliott presented the most recent EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) testing results, which score writing, reading, and math in grades three, six, and nine.
It also tracks grade ten results for the literacy test and compares the board students against the provincial average.
Over a five-year trajectory, the board has improved in almost every category.
Elliott says they are focusing on those who need the most assistance first.
“Not only who are those that are not being served by our current practices, but who have the greatest needs and where is it mattering most.”
Elliott discussed their guide to goal setting.
” … evident in some of our need for further analysis and intervention, and determination of how do we help to support growth in greater means in our primary years and in our Grade 9 mathematics.”
The numbers show the percentage of students achieving the provincial average in a particular category, with HPE trailing 4-14 points behind the Ontario average.
Elliott says there have been substantial 12-point bumps in both grade six and nine math, along with a nine-point increase in literacy testing, compared to 2022.
