The Lorne Brooker Show wrapped up its interviews with mayoral candidates in Prince Edward County chatting with Ernie Margetson for its Meet the Candidates segment.
During his appearance on Tuesday, Margetson went over his background including as a professional engineer, former municipal public works staff member and deputy engineer, and councillor for Hillier ward.
He outlined his vision for Prince Edward County.
“My vision is basically that Prince Edward County is a healthy, safe, prosperous, vibrant community, and to be that, we need to have a responsible and efficient local government that works closely with our staff and the constituents. And you want the constituents to be confident in their government,” Margetson explained.
“I think the second thing is financial planning, which is so important, not only within the four-year term of council, but financial plans you make now, and I’m thinking asset management or large capital expenditures, and the the ability to pay them off over a number of years that affects not only this term but multiple terms of government and taxpayers over generations. So, these are the types of decisions that have long-standing implications, not just within the four-year term of this council.”
During his final word, Margetson explained what he would bring as a leader.
“I firmly believe that we can work together for a better, stronger, and united Prince Edward County. That is my belief and my conviction, and what I would work towards,” Margetson said.
“So, if you want a leader with vision and purpose, someone who does the research and makes fact-based decisions and makes them with confidence and leads with honesty, integrity, and common sense. I would be very proud to serve you as the mayor of Prince Edward County.”
