Hastings County is continuing its process to roll out the use of AI tools throughout the municipality.
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Finance, Property and Personnel Committee, members of Hastings County Council briefly discussed the ongoing process to permit the use of AI tools and utilities by municipal staff.
Hastings County first adopted a framework for AI usage in May, and has been working on the implementation since then. A cross-departmental AI Working Group, consisting of 25 staff members across multiple departments, was established to explore opportunities, identify use cases, test guidance, and provide feedback on the corporate approach to AI. The working group includes representation from all departments.
So far, the working group has identified and tracked 45 documented AI use cases. These examples demonstrate that approved AI tools are helping staff reduce time spent on routine administrative activities, complete common tasks more efficiently, and redirect capacity toward higher-value work and service delivery.
Over the next phase of implementation, the group plans to expand staff training, and identify uses where AI can help speed up work.
