Bridge work continues

Work continues to rehabilitate the old Upper Bridge in Belleville’s Downtown District.

Construction firm Urbanlink Civil is putting the finishing touches on the bridge’s arches while simultaneously working on and underneath its deck.

City officials say the project is expected to be completed before the end of the year and should be within its almost $4.2 million dollar budget.

Works Completed:

· Removal of ballast wall and expansion joint assemblies at east

· Removal of interlock pavers, curb and gutter, concrete under sidewalks at east approach

· Earth excavation at east approach

· Removal of splash panels

· Removal of asphalt and waterproofing over deck

· Installation of access platform at north underside for tie-beam/concrete overhang repairs

· Removal of street lighting poles, removal of concrete lamppost pedestals at pier

· Removal of hangers and temporary support for utility at north

· Abrasive blast cleaning of concrete arches

· Removal of concrete sidewalk, curb and pedestrian barriers at north

· Partial depth concrete removal at west abutment

· Reconstruction of retaining wall at NE approach

· Reconstruction of overhang floor brackets under north sidewalk

– Works Ongoing / Upcoming:

· Reconstruction of sidewalk and curb at north (concrete and PVC conduit installation)

· Installation of hanger support for conduits at north

· Partial depth concrete repair and Xypex waterproofing at tie beams and overhang floor brackets at north, west abutment and pier

· Partial depth concrete repair at south arch hangers and ribs
