Both parties were charged in an intimate partner violence investigation in Belleville on Monday.
Belleville police responded to a domestic dispute at a North Front Street residence just before 6 p.m.
Officers spoke with a female who reported that during a verbal argument, a male punched her before leaving the residence.
At the same time, a male attended the Belleville Police Service to report that he had also been assaulted during the same incident, and had been punched by the female.
As a result of the investigation, both parties were arrested and charged.
A 38-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with spousal assault and two counts of fail to comply with a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing.
A 34-year-old Belleville woman was charged with spousal assault and released on an undertaking with a court date in November.
