Quinte West Councillor Shelley Stedall is taking aim at potential double-digit price hikes for Ontario Provincial Police services.
A motion coming before city council on Wednesday addresses a recent provincial letter setting an up to 11-per cent cap on OPP municipal budget increases for 2027.
Stedall’s motion argues that an 11-per cent surge far outpaces inflation and will place a heavy burden on fixed-income seniors and lower-income families.
Council will vote on requesting the province lower the cost cap and partner with municipalities to build a more predictable funding model.
