The County Marathon returns this weekend reminding residents of road closures and traffic impacts.
The 23rd annual County Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 4, bringing runners, volunteers, spectators and visitors to communities across Prince Edward County. While the event is an important part of the county’s fall calendar, residents and motorists are reminded to plan ahead for temporary road closures and traffic disruptions along the race route.
The full marathon will begin in Wellington and finish in Picton at the fair grounds. Road closures will be rolling, with roads reopening as runners and race operations clear each section.
Traffic control will be coordinated by race organizers, volunteers and members of the Ontario Provincial Police. OPP remind motorists and residents that these measures are in place to help ensure a safe event for everyone, and asks for patience, understanding and courtesy as temporary road closures are implemented throughout the day.
Residents living along, or travelling through the race route are asked to plan trips around the anticipated closure periods. Drivers should follow directions from OPP officers, traffic-control personnel and race marshals, and use extra caution around runners, volunteers and other participants. Additionally, OPP encourage motorists to avoid the race route where possible, allow additional travel time and plan alternate routes in advance.
