Members of Toronto’s Jewish community have launched a fundraiser to support Belleville Police Constable Jeff Smith, who remains in hospital in critical but stable condition after being shot outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville
Worshippers took cover inside the building as Constable Smith confronted the armed suspect, putting himself in harm’s way to protect the congregation on the holiest day of the Jewish year.
