What began as a nasty neighbourhood dispute has ended in 18-months probation for a Quinte area man.
In a Belleville courtroom Thursday, Justice Robert Horton handed down the sentence, after Peter Chisholm (45 at the time the charges were laid) plead guilty to mischief (Section 430 (1) (d) – wilfully obstruct, interrupt, or interfere with any person in lawful use, enjoyment, or operation of property).
It stems back to a friendship gone wrong in a Quinte West neighbourhood.
Between January 2023 and May 2025, there was harassing behaviour against two neighbour families, which included the sending of dozens of anonymous letters to two of the victims’ places of employment.
Justice Horton told the court is was a dispute gone array, that almost turned into an obsession.
Hortons says the sending letters to an employer threatens ones ability to make a living.
Chisholm, 45 at the time the charges were laid, had charges of criminal harassment, and harassing communications (x 2) dropped, while his partner Jerri Chisholm’s (38 at the time the charges were laid) charge of mischief was withdrawn by the Crown.
The Chisholm’s legal representative Ed Kafka says his client believed the allegations in the letters were true and should have signed his name to them.
There were investigations into the claims made in the letters came back negative
A common law peace bond is now in place.
