Belleville City Council approved a new development charge by-law for residential developments at its meeting on Monday.
The new by-law establishes updated development charge rates for those developments across the city.
For single-detached homes in Belleville’s urban area, the rate has decreased by $4,375, a 14 per cent reduction from the rate under the previous by-law.
The by-law maintains the existing non-residential development charge rates, while city staff complete a detailed review of feedback received from non-residential stakeholders during the public consultation process.
Staff will report back to council in early 2027 with recommendations related to non-residential rates.
The complete development charge rate schedule is available on the City of Belleville’s development charges webpage.
A copy of the new by-law is also available for public viewing at City Hall, located at 169 Front St., during regular business hours.
