Belleville City Council approved a significant grant for a local industry’s relocation and expansion plans at Monday’s meeting.
The grant totals $202,115 to BCS Automation and the landlord, Bowland Company, supporting a $10.7 million move and the construction of a new manufacturing plant at 435 Station Street.
Funding comes from the city’s Employment Lands Community Improvement Plan and is broken down as follows:
- Development Charges Rebate – $162,808
- Planning Fees Rebate – $3,757
- Building Permit Rebate – $19,750
- Landscaping Rebate – $15,800
BCS Automation manufactures automation systems for the marine and defence industries and is now operating from a site on Dundas Street East.
According to a report to council, the new plant will be over 37,000 square feet and is expected to increase the company’s manufacturing capacity by approximately 200%.
Thirty-two current employees will be retained, and 15 new full-time positions are expected to be created.
