The 2026 Belleville Sports Hall of Fame induction took place on Saturday at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
Headlining the Class of 2026 was two-time Stanley Cup champion Andrew Shaw, who enjoyed a decade-long career in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks and Montreal Canadiens.
Joining Shaw in the athlete category was high-flying volleyball player Blake Scheerhoorn, who rose from Quinte Christian Secondary to play for Team Canada.
Badminton standout Denis Legros was also inducted, recognized as one of the finest home-grown racket talents in the city’s history.
In the builder category, legendary high school basketball coach Jim Barbeau was celebrated for setting the athletic standard at Nicholson Catholic College for nearly three decades.
Motorsport veteran Gary Magwood rounded out the class as both an athlete and builder, recognized for his decorated racing career and over 40 years of driver safety education.
Hall of Fame Chair Ian Press praised the group, saying the Class of 2026 reflects the incredible depth and diversity of local sports leadership.
The formal ceremony took place at the Dr. R. L. Vaughan Atrium.
In addition to the main hall inductees, local high school athletes of the year were recognized during the weekend festivities.
