Northumberland OPP are once again reminding residents to “Lock it or Lose it” after the theft of a vehicle in Campbellford.
The vehicle was reported stolen from a residence early Friday.
The vehicle was located a short time later, unoccupied, in the surrounding area.
Items had been removed from inside the vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being assisted by OPP Forensic Identification Services.
Police say the incident serves as a reminder that simple steps can help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Whether parked at home, at work, or while running errands, motorists are encouraged to secure their vehicles and remove valuables from sight.
Northumberland OPP encourage residents to follow these crime prevention tips:
- Never leave a running vehicle unattended.
- Lock vehicle doors and close all windows.
- Keep valuables out of sight.
- Remove wallets, purses, identification, electronics and other personal belongings from the vehicle.
- Keep vehicle ownership and insurance documents secure.
- Pocket your keys and secure key fobs inside your residence.
- Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
Criminals often target unattended vehicles looking for opportunities.
Items commonly sought include wallets, identification, bank cards, electronic devices, cash and tools.
Stolen identification and personal documents may also be used to commit further crimes, causing additional hardship for victims.
