The local YMCA Strong Kids campaign was the big winner of the annual Trenton Dragon Boat races this past Saturday.
Race Director Tiffany Dranski:
“The thunderstorms held off, so the rain was all we needed to deal with. We kept the races moving fairly quickly, and it seemed like our paddlers were really happy about that. We finished all 26 races including our finals by 2:15 p.m.”
Close to $10,000 was raised to support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, which Dranski says is the largest amount raised to date.
“It feels amazing. It tells us that the community of dragon boating is still around, and that people are still wanting to do the sport, which is great. “
“We borrowed equipment from neighbouring clubs, and I think that’s what brings a community festival together.”
The races took place on the Trent River in Quinte West and 14 teams, from as far away as Stratford participated.
