There was a long fire battle in Northumberland County on Thursday.
According to Pete Fisher at Today’s Northumberland, fire crews responded around 3:45 p.m. to what was initially described as a grass fire, however, it turned out to be a a large pile of straw bales.
Workman Road between County Road 2 and Elgin Street were closed during the blaze.
Cobourg Fire requested tanker support from Alnwick/Haldimand Township and Hamilton Township.
Large equipment was also brought in to dismantle the bales which were all piled together.
Crews fought the stubborn blaze until 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.
