Northumberland Clarke Conservative MP Philip Lawrence took issue with the impact of floor crossings during federal committee meetings this week.
He questioned Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Gregor Robertson about Liberal ridings being rewarded and other ridings seemingly ignored or punished.
Lawrence read out what he says Sarnia area MP Marilyn Gladu said to her local media after crossing from the Conservatives to the Liberals.
“Watching for 10 years, people on the government benches tend to get more for their ridings and their projects. Interestingly, after I crossed, I had a call yesterday, from the infrastructure bank, from the infrastructure and housing minister’s office. Wanting to get together and talk about the things we needed for Sarnia-Lambton. I had sent Minister Gregor Robertson, when I was elected in 2025, a one-page list of all the things that I wanted in Sarnia. It really went nowhere until I crossed the floor.“
Lawrence cut off the minister’s response.
“Lists from… with with fact, you are really broaching the threshold for unbelievability. The crossing of a member would presumably think a fairly big deal. And for your office to contact her immediately after crossing, and then for that member to comment on it, I think that that would be something you’re aware of.“
Lawrence says he’s sent two letters to Minister Robertson about major infrastructure projects in Northumberland since being reelected and has yet to receive any type of response for either.
