Road resurfacing work is on the way on Phillipston Road.
Belleville City Council approved a recommendation to amend the 2026 Capital Budget to allow for the work to take place at its meeting on Monday.
This would include amending the road resurfacing portion of the budget in the amount of $1,345,000.
$150,000 would come from the Asset Management Reserve Fund.
A report to council states that the road has “deteriorated to an extremely poor state of repair” and is currently performing below acceptable service levels laid out by the city of Belleville’s Asset Management Plan and Roads Needs Study.
Director of Transportation for the City of Belleville, Joe Reid, was asked by Councillor Paul Carr what sort of work would be undertaken.
“We have identified 12 culverts that need to be replaced, so we’ll be replacing those in the next few weeks to a month,” Director Reid told council.
“It is primarily just a road resurfacing project and trying to make that a little more enjoyable ride quality for the residents, to mitigate some of the concerns we have. We’ll be doing some cautionary signage and so forth, because it won’t be addressing the end of the steep curves or hills.”
As part of the amendment, some funds had been reallocated to allow for the project to move forward.
Reid says that the reallocation will not affect already planned resurfacing projects for 2026.
