Emergency crews had to work together to save two people stranded on the Moira River in the Roslin Area Sunday night.
They were stranded in the middle of the river after their off-road vehicle became swamped and overcome by the river flow.
Tweed Fire Department responded just after 8 p.m. and requested the assistance of Belleville Fire’s Water Rescue Team.
The Belleville team found the victims in extreme hypothermia and unable to move.
Firefighters took the patients about a kilometre down the fast flowing river in the dark to awaiting ambulances and they were transported to Belleville General Hospital for treatment.
It was an extremely challenging rescue in the dark on an unfamiliar stretch of the river and required Tweed and Belleville Fire, Hastings Quinte Paramedics and OPP to work together.
Residents are reminded to take extreme caution near waterways during the spring thaw.
