The Belleville Police Service Board will continue to meet in the Joint Forces Operations Room at police headquarters on
Sidney Street in the future.
The location of the board’s meetings came under discussion following a request from city councillor Paul Carr in December that
they be returned to council chambers at City Hall so they could be more available to the public via livestream.
On Thursday, Board Chair Heather Smith said it was much more efficient for the meetings to be held at the police station as officers
and other staff could be quickly summoned to provide information, thereby allowing them more time to do their work.
Smith noted that in the past two years there has been only one request for livestreaming from the public.
The board has provided signage making the entry point to the meeting room clearer to the public.
