Quinte West OPP are encouraging residents to take simple steps to protect their property by remembering to “Lock It or Lose It”.
Between the evening of Thursday and the early hours of Friday, Quinte West OPP received several reports of vehicles being entered and rummaged through. In one case, keys were located inside a vehicle which was subsequently stolen.
Police say that despite the cold weather, they continue to get reports of thefts from parked cars, and that these are usually crimes of opportunity when thieves find a vehicle unlocked.
Residents are encouraged to lock their doors, keep valuables out of sight, and never leave the keys to a vehicle unattended inside.
