A Prince Edward County resident believes county council’s Code of Conduct doesn’t go far enough when it comes to conflict of interest regulations.
At Tuesday’s council meeting Paul Allen will say that the county’s Integrity Commissioner told him the Code of Conduct has no enforceable means of stopping councillors from acting to benefit themselves or family members.
Allen had complained that at a December 9 council meeting one councillor was alone in voting against a motion that might have negative financial consequences for a company the councillor’s son had a business relationship with.
Allen says other nearby municipalities have enforceable rules about pecuniary and non-pecuniary conflicts of interest in their codes of conduct.
