The path for Loyalist College to get back to a balanced budget continues to take shape, but not without tough decisions being made.
Several sources to Quinte News have confirmed that 15 layoff notices where announced on Tuesday, however, not all those effected know.
Staffing at the school is broken down into full-time, part-time, and partial load faculty, along with support staff, administration.
In January 2025, the college announced a 20-per cent reduction in staffing levels, along with a 30-per cent drop in programs, which began this past September.
One of our sources tells us that in a little over one year, full-time faculty positions have gone from 140 to 74, while partial load has dropped from 200 to 96.
Some staff have accepted early retirement or other incentive packages.
We are told there has been an increase in part-time faculty and administration at the school.
In December 2025, College President Mark Kirkpatrick told us the college is planning on having between 2,300 and 2,500 students, a far cry from the 7,000 at the school just a few years ago.
