A 26-year-old Peterborough man is facing multiple charges of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order after a theft-from-vehicle call for service.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on December 27, officers were notified of a theft from a vehicle in the area of Maude Street and Lansdowne Street. The caller stated a vehicle had been broken into and a magazine with rounds of ammunition were taken, along with loose ammunition. The rifle to which the ammunition belonged was stored away and was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Through video footage that captured the incident, officers were able to identify the man. The man was located a short distance away and taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order x4
- Theft under $5,000
The accused is currently bound by four prohibition orders with conditions including that he is prohibited from possessing any firearm, cross-bow, restricted weapon, ammunition and explosive substance for life.
The accused was released on an undertaking and scheduled to attend court in February 2026.
