Quinte News had the chance to speak with the MPP of Northumberland-Peterborough South David Piccini to look back on the year that was 2025.
Regarding the Brighton area, Piccini noted a provincial boost of nearly $35 million into a new wastewater treatment plant.
“What that really means is it’s a future. It’s an ability to plan out not just today, but for tomorrow,” Piccini said in explaining the investment.
“I think that one of the most exciting things for a public policymaker, is to plant a tree… that’s what this really does for the community of Brighton.”
When discussing about expanding opportunities in the trades, Piccini mentioned an initiative taking place in Port Hope.
“Previous governments took shop classes out of schools, and now we’re expanding it, investing back into schools, getting trades pathways,” Piccini explained.
“We’re treating downtown Port Hope, for example, one of the old historical buildings, as a live training ground for a next generation of masons working with one of the largest restoration companies in Canada.”
Piccini was asked about the ongoing controversy around the Skills Development Fund as he faces an investigation from Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner.
