With the year coming to a close, Quinte News spoke to Hastings Lennox and Addington Tyendinaga MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman about the year that’s been.
While discussing the year’s accomplishments, she highlighted her work in providing direct assistance to her constituents with a wide range of issues from dealing with revenue Canada to finding healthcare.
“Even when I’m in the grocery store or at sporting events, and I have people approach me saying that the impact that the office has been able to to make in their lives is pretty profound,” said MP Kramp-Neuman.
She also highlighted her work on the Foreign Affairs Committee, where she and her colleagues studied several major world events that took place over the year for their impact on Canada.
The past year also came with challenges. MP Kramp-Neuman said that in her role as Shadow Minister of for Canada US trade, she’s constantly confronted with the impact that trade deadlock and tariffs are having on the local community.
“With regards to Canada-US trade, the ongoing tensions, economic sovereignty, the questions of diversification of trade, and I think in general the future of Canada’s historical partnership plays heavy on a lot of Canadians because of the impact that those tariffs,” said MP Kramp-Neuman.
She concluded her reflections on the previous year by noting that political engagement among Canadians is on the rise amid the challenges the country faces, and that she’s glad to see more people getting involved in politics.
