Resolve Counselling Services Canada is one of 20 community-based organizations across Canada selected to receive funding from the Department
of National Defence’s Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) through the Community Support for Sexual Misconduct Survivors Grant Program.
The new funding supports 21 projects nationwide that aim to expand access to crisis management, counselling, and survivor-focused services for members of the Defence community affected by sexual misconduct.
With this investment, Resolve Counselling Services Canada will launch a new initiative providing priority, no-waitlist access to therapy for current and former Canadian Armed Forces members and Department of National Defence employees who have experienced sexual misconduct, as well as their supporters.
“We know that when someone reaches out for help, access and timing can make all the difference,” said Stafford Murphy, Executive Director of Resolve Counselling Services Canada.
“This funding ensures that members of the Defence community impacted by sexual misconduct can access immediate, evidence-based care and compassionate support—without being placed on a waitlist.”
Drawing on more than 50 years of experience in clinical counselling and trauma recovery, Resolve will deliver approximately 420 therapy sessions per year through a trauma-informed approach.
Services will use evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and integrative psychotherapy, offered in both English and French.
“This project represents an important step forward in ensuring survivors receive the care they need, when they need it,” added Murphy. “We are committed to walking alongside survivors and their families on their path to healing with compassion, expertise, and respect.”
Over the next three years, the initiative aims to reduce wait times, improve mental health outcomes, and strengthen collaboration between community and military partners.
Participants are expected to experience improved resilience, reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, and an enhanced sense of empowerment and recovery.
Resolve Counselling Services Canada is a Kingston-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing accessible, compassionate counselling and community services that promote mental health, wellness, and safety.
