Quinte News has learned that renovations are about to begin on the former Intelligencer building in downtown Belleville.
We have received word that a site plan application has been submitted to the City of Belleville by Prime Canadian Properties, the owners of 45 Bridge Street East.
Although it is in the early stages, a source tells us a full gutting and renovation of the interior is to take place, to prepare the site for commercial occupants.
A person connected to the property also tells us that the owners would still be willing to sell the building, however, the realty posting indicates it is for lease.
The former newpaper building is zoned commercial and currently can only house a business, office, or storefront, although some past plans for the property did include residential unit consideration.
The City of Belleville will be providing comments and the owners could move for a permit on the site.
Our source adds that the intention is to keep parking on the south side of the building, with landscaping work coming to the road frontage.
