Support is rolling in from various municipalities for a resolution circulated by Brighton council last month.
The resolution suggests democracy is becoming less popular in many countries as the population grows disenchanted
with politicians working in a polarized, hostile, and non-productive climate.
The resolution says the current “first-past-the-post” electoral system promotes the hostility and suggests
elections that are run with a “proportional representation” system would allow more diversity of ideas and more
discussion and compromise in decision-making.
At Monday’s meeting, council will see letters of support from the municipalities of St. Joseph, Harley, and Stratford.
