A 21-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with assault following a call regarding intimate partner violence.
That call came after an initial report of a disturbance in the downtown area Friday morning at around 1:40 a.m.
It was reported that the disturbance involved two males.
When police arrived, the two were separated and no further complaints were made regarding that particular incident.
While officers were speaking with one of the males, the man’s phone rang.
He reported to officers that the caller was a female who had been assaulted.
Officers spoke to the female over the phone, who reported to police that a male had hit and choked her earlier in the evening.
Police attended the caller’s address, where they spotted several people outside, including the woman they spoke to on the phone and the male.
The female further reported that the male had bitten her head.
As a result of investigation, a 21-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with assault.
He was held for a bail hearing.
