Swan, Gary Wray. (August 23, 1949 – October 20, 2025)
Gary passed away peacefully at his home with his daughter Tabitha and his loyal dog Kai by his side. Born in Temiscaming, Quebec, he was predeceased by his mother Naomi (Carley), father Ross and brother Lt. Col. (retired) Murray Swan. Gary will be greatly missed by his daughter Tabitha McKenzie, son-in-law Sean, grandson Silas, sister Jane and her husband Eric Deacon, sister-in-law Marion, niece Lindsay Swan, nephews Eric and Mike Deacon (Melissa), and his great nephews. Gary was the owner operator of A1 Certified Services specializing in foundations, waterproofing, concrete, restoration, and repair. He was well known in the business because of his knowledge and experience, and he took great pride in his work. A lifelong fan of the game of basketball, Gary, brother Murray and friends never missed a game during March Madness. Not a lot of work was done during the tournament, especially during the Final Four!! Gary moved into his house in 2013, and it quickly became his happy place! During his retirement, Gary could be found on the back deck sharing a cold one with his many friends and family who stopped by for a visit and lively conversation. They were very special to him and they helped each other in their work and in their daily lives. Thanks for the Memories Gary! We’ve had a lifetime of them. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all of you who offered assistance throughout Gary’s illness and lifted his spirits with your visits. You were needed and helped so much with driving to treatments, bringing meals and just being there for Gary. During her dad’s illness,Tabitha too was there to help every step of the way and Gary was very grateful for all of her care. She could not have done more. A cremation has taken place arranged by Steele’s Funeral home. As per Gary’s wishes, a private service will be held for family and friends. There will be a A Celebration of Life in the early spring. In lieu of flowers, Gary not being a flower guy, a donation to the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward will honour Gary’s love for animals.
