The first-of-four public meetings on a ballot question for the 2026 municipal election in Prince Edward County is set to begin on Thursday.
County Council is looking to pass a by-law to add the following question to the election ballot, “Are you in favour of a third-party review of council and related ward boundary changes?”
The answer options are yes or no only.
For the results of the question to be legal binding, there needs to be at least 50 per cent of the eligible electors in the municipality to vote on the question.
It also needs more than 50 per cent of the voters to vote in favour.
Should the vote go in favour, the estimated costs of the third-party review would be between $60,000 and $100,000 depending on the scope of the work.
Any changes would go into effect for the 2031 municipal election.
The first public meeting will be held at Ameliasburgh Town Hall on Thursday at 6 p.m.
