Prince Edward County is providing some funding support for the County Food Hub,
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council examined a proposal to provide $40,000 in funding to the County Food Hub, in order to cover some of their program expenses.
The funds are needed because while the hub qualifies for grant funding through the Agricultural Workforce Equity and Diversity Initiative, it is a claims-based grant, requiring the hub to front costs to be reimbursed with grant money. Under the agreement, funds will be provided to the hub to cover those up-front costs, and be repaid after the grant money is received.
The funding is to be used to run a food entrepreneur training program, along with minor upgrades to the commercial kitchen facilities at the hub.
Council voted to approve the funding support without debate.
