Prince Edward County is considering support for an effort to raise funds for the Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre.
During Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, council received an annual impact report about the aquatic centre from Sue Mathieu, secretary of the PEFAC board of directors.
During the report, council was informed that PEFAC is facing some significant financial challenges, and are looking to purchase the building they currently reside in as it is going up for sale by the current owners.
During her deputation, Mathieu requested that council declare the fundraiser a project of community interest, in order to allow the municipality to receive donations on the fitness centre’s behalf.
After some debate, council voted to defer a decision on the fundraiser to a future meeting of council, to allow municipal staff to gather more information and prepare a report on how the municipality may contribute to the fundraising efforts.
