Bay of Quinte Member of Parliament Chris Malette is deeply concerned by VIA Rail’s recent decision to eliminate stops in Belleville and the surrounding communities.
VIA is launching a three-month pilot project from September 29 to December 21, resulting in multiple non-stop trains travelling from Montreal to Toronto.
During the pilot, VIA Rail trains 60, 61, 68 and 69 will not stop in Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston and Belleville.
Malette says the decision was made without any consultation and will have significant repercussions for the region.
He has reached out to the Minister of Transport to express his concerns and says he will advocate for VIA to reconsider and reverse its decision.
