Prince Edward County Council referred a budget request from County Docs to staff for inclusion and consideration in the 2026 Operating Budget process at its meeting on Tuesday.
Barinder Gill, Executive Director of the Prince Edward Family Health Team (PEFHT), and Adam Hambly, Director of Physician Recruitment for PEFHT, delivered a deputation to council updating the work done by County Docs since the last time they presented to councillors.
Since their last report, County Docs reported two new physicians that have started a practice in the county in 2025 so far, with nine new physicians in total.
Three of the nine physicians recruited joined the ER group.
It was also announced that County Docs had launched a U.S.-focused advertising campaign to attract American family physicians.
Following their deputation, Gill and Hambly laid out a request to have an increase to its portion of the operational budget from $150,000 to $160,500, an increase of seven per cent.
They say the increase would accommodate general increases in costs related to economic uncertainty and at minimum, a cost of living adjustment to the physician recruiter salary.
Council approved a motion to have the request referred to county staff for inclusion and consideration in the 2026 operating budget process.
