Belleville council believes Canadian military veterans deserve and need a benefit increase.
On Monday, council supported a resolution in the Town of Aylmer that asked for a doubling of the eligibility threshold for Veterans Income Replacement Benefit to $40,000 a year from the current $20,000.
Mayor Neil Ellis, who as an MP for Bay of Quinte riding was chair of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, told council that the $20,000 threshold simply was not enough support for the 460,000 veterans who dedicated part of their lives defending our way of life.
