Newman, Leda “Ruth” (nee Fox) peacefully passed away at the Bridge Hospice on August 1st, 2025 at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of Gary Newman for just shy of 69 years. Loving mother to Calvin Newman (Tina), Rodney Newman, Gwen Bush (predeceased) (Brad), Janet Newman-Phillips (Peter). Cherished grandmother of Allison Paddon (Kelly), Sarah Thompson (Jeff), Kylie Spooner, Amy Newman, Cameron Bush, Jazlyn Bush and great-grandmother to Jack Paddon, Blake Paddon, Drew Paddon, Callie Thompson and Wake Thompson. Ruth is predeceased by her parents Douglas and Leda Fox. Ruth was predeceased by her brother Hugh Fox and sister-in-law Mary Kaye Fox. She is predeceased by her brother-in-law Wayne Newman (Dianne surviving), survived by her brother-in-law Sterling Newman (Karen) and will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was a proud member of St. Paul’s United Church and the UCW for the majority of her life. Ruth was an active member of the Percy Township council for 9 years and in her last term became the 1st woman to be Reeve of Percy Township. She also served as a member of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital board of directors. Ruth was also active in the 4-H as a youth and then became a 4-H leader for several years in adulthood. Ruth proudly owned and operated the Warkworth Cheese House. Ruth’s favorite hobbies included gardening and tending to her flowers, golfing, travelling, spending her winters in Florida, and living her life on the farm.
Family & friends are invited to visit at the Weaver Family Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Warkworth on August 11th from 4-8 PM followed by a Visitation August 12th at St. Paul’s United Church from 12:00-1:00PM, Memorial service from 1:00-2:00PM, Interment at Stone Cemetery from 2:00-2:30 PM, followed by refreshments at St. Paul’s United Church.
