Championship Saturday at Loyalist College capped off a fantastic season for Quinte Skyhawks Minor Football, with two thrilling games that showcased the talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit of young athletes from across the region.
The day kicked off with the Mike Schad “B” Championship between the Peter Smith GM Defenders and the Napanee Jr Hawks. Napanee opened the game with a successful onside kick and scored on the very first play with a two point conversion to take an 8–0 lead. The Defenders responded immediately with a touchdown of their own, and the game remained tight through the first quarter, with Napanee leading 14–6.
The Defenders took control in the second quarter, scoring three straight touchdowns—including one just before halftime—to go into the break up 28–14. Napanee battled back in the second half, scoring twice to tie the game 28–28 in the fourth quarter. But the Defenders answered with a go-ahead drive, a kickoff return touchdown, and a late pick-six to pull away.
Final score: Peter Smith GM Defenders 48, Napanee Jr Hawks 28.
Congratulations to the Defenders, 2025 Mike Schad “B” Champions.
In the Pat Carty “A” Championship, the King Auto Titans and Quinte Ortho Chargers met in a highly anticipated rematch. The Chargers opened the scoring when their first punt rolled into the end zone and was recovered for a touchdown. The Titans responded with a scoring drive led by #55 Zack Doucette to take a 7–6 lead.
A fumble by the Titans later in the half set up the Chargers for a go-ahead touchdown, making it 12–7. The Titans threatened late in the half, but the Chargers’ defense held.
In the second half, both teams traded big plays. Doucette scored again to give the Titans a brief lead, but the Chargers answered quickly with a long run from #26 Tristan Bushell. The Chargers recovered the ensuing kickoff and scored again to open the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 25–13. Doucette added another touchdown for the Titans, but the Chargers responded with a late scoring drive led by quarterback Skyler Lanning to seal the win.
Final score: Quinte Ortho Chargers 32, King Auto Titans 19.
