Phase two of a green space project in Madoc has been given the green light.
At Monday’s meeting of the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board, trustees approved a tender for work at Central Hastings School.
Al White Landscaping & Excavating had the approved bid at $2.4 million.
Board Chair Kari Kramp spoke in support of the project.
She says this green space project is on the site where Madoc Public once stood.
“Central Hastings now functions as a K-12 hub, serving students from small municipalities that include Madoc, Marmora, Tweed, in an area of rural Ontario. Ye despite its size and catchment, it currently has very limited green space for students.”
She says it is more than about landscaping.
“It’s about physical education, it’s about leadership development, it’s about developing health community partnerships and curriculum connections across all grades.”
Work includes trenching for connection to the water main at school, new sod, an asphalt track, sports equipment site furnishings, and site lighting at a new field.
