Belleville City Council will be looking at a recommendation to create and release a proposal package for the development of affordable housing at the site of the former Queen Mary school.
The package would dispose of a portion of land through a land sale, a total of 3.23 acres, for the purpose of creating affordable rental housing.
A report to council says the area will include the grassy field located at the southern limit of the site, as well as the former school building.
Priority will be given to projects that utilize the former building.
Submissions will be scored on the following factors:
- Level of affordability;
- Number of affordable units and total units;
- Duration of affordability;
- Conformity with Zoning By-law 2024-100’s base zones;
- Construction completion timeline; and
- Adaptive reuse of the former school building.
Qualified submissions will be brought back for council’s consideration to determine the viability of moving forward with a project.
If there is no interest in developing the former school site and grassy field together in an integrated proposal, or if submissions are deemed incompatible upon staff’s review, a subsequent report will be presented to council.
Belleville council meets on Monday in council chambers starting at 4 p.m.
