Belleville City Council approved receiving the Housing Needs Assessment at its meeting on Monday.
The assessment is required by municipalities with a population over 30,000 in order to be eligible for funding under federal infrastructure programs.
It concludes that Belleville must significantly increase its annual housing output, focus more on medium- and high-density formats, purpose-built rentals, and affordable ownership options.
This is to accommodate projected population growth and support long-term economic development.
