Quinte West OPP have laid charges and are seeking the public’s assistance in a death investigation.
On Thursday, August 15, 2024 at around 10:00 a.m., officers with the OPP as well as Quinte West Fire and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services attended a residence on Westmount Court, where a 49-year-old male from Quinte West was located deceased.
On Thursday, following a lengthy investigation, 36-year-old Shannon Brooks of Quinte West, was arrested with the help of the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Unit.
Brooks was charged with the following:
- Indignity to dead body
- Theft of credit card
- Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of a credit card
In relation to separate investigations, the accused was also charged with the following offences:
- Operation while prohibited
- Fail to comply with probation order – three counts
The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
