After a harder winter than normal for some of the city’s rural roads, Quinte West council approved reallocating $500,000 in funds from the Various Roads Arterial and Local Programs to the Surface Treated Road Program.
This would bring the total budget for the program to $1,870,000.
In a report to council, Manager of Engineering Services Robert Jackson, says that many of the surface-treated roads experienced significant potholing and degradation.
Public Works reevaluated the condition of the roads and the needs of the surface-treated roads, recommending that the surface-treated program be revised and expanded.
The additional recommended roads to be added to the surface treatment program include:
- Dobson Road
- Barcovan Road
- Coltman Road
- Dalmas Road
- Montrose Road
- Reid Road
- Will Johnson Road
- Jameson Road
The estimated cost to add the above roads to the surface treatment program is $500,000.
The decision to move the funding from the Various Road Project was made after the winning bid for the tender came in significantly under budget.
It comes in as follows:
Various Road Budget: $6,351,000
Various Road Winning Quote: $4,673,000
Other Anticipated Costs (including costs to date): $742,000
Various Roads Remaining Budget: $936,000
Reallocation from the Various Roads Paving Program will provide the program with a remaining budget of $436,000.
