This is Police Week in Ontario and the Belleville Police Service is proud to join with police services across the province to celebrate the work frontline police officers, 911 communicators, and police members do to keep Ontarians safe.
The theme for the week is Protecting Ontario and highlights the importance of safe communities to the overall health and well-being of all Ontarians and the role police members play in keeping Ontario safe
“Police Week was first observed in 1970. Since then, Ontario police services and community members have come together to honour and celebrate police officers and personnel for the extraordinary work they do every day,” said Chief Rodd “It provides us with opportunities to learn and share about our members’ great work and the many partnerships that promote public safety. Police Week also coincides with Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is recognized internationally on May 15.”
Police Service Board Chair Heather Smith shares, “As a result of the work being done to create a strategic plan, it has been my honour to learn of the positive impact our police officers have on our community. Despite the significant social challenges we face in Belleville, our officers show up each day with compassion and dedication, working to bring relief and hope to those experiencing some of their most difficult moments.
Please take time to wave or engage with our members throughout the week to acknowledge this special week in the life of the Belleville Police Service.”
The annual Police Week in Ontario is sponsored by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police and the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General.
Police week runs until May 17.
