The homeless population in Hastings County increased by 18 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the last quarter of 2024.
A report to Hastings’ County’s Community and Human Services Committee shows at least 291 people were homeless with at least 135 of them being chronically homeless.
Twenty-five people were identified as “newly chronically homeless” while 22 people previously homeless were able to find housing in the months January through March.
The report comes from a national program called Built For Zero.
