Prince Edward County has voted to put a governance review on the ballot in the upcoming 2026 election.
Councillor Chris Braney put the motion forward during council’s meeting on Tuesday.
The motion calls for the municipal clerk to make a report to council with the framework needed to include a question on the ballot of the 2026 municipal election, asking residents if they want a governance review to take place.
Councillor Braney said he’d spoken to many residents who wanted parts of the governing structure looked at, including the size of the municipal council.
“A governance review can identify areas for improvement to help a municipality meet its objectives for driving strategy and performance,” said Councillor Braney. “Reviewing our governance model is a proactive and healthy exercise that can provide many benefits to council performance.”
The motion was passed after brief debate.
