Belleville City Council passed a motion from Councillor Paul Carr on Monday asking for Hastings County to contribute to capital improvements to the integrated care hub at Alhambra Square.
Before the council meeting started, it was announced that the province would be providing HART Hub operational funding for the centre to the tune of $6.3 million each year for the next three years.
Councillor Carr said the funding announcement was welcomed, but made note that the money is being funneled through Hastings County.
He notes that while the city has taken the initial initiative to get plans rolling on the new hub, it is still a regional initiative.
“We as a city shouldn’t be bearing that load ourselves. We should ask our member municipalities that are going to benefit from this regional hub to contribute to capital funds to assist with that,” Carr told council.
“So this is simply making that request, and hopefully, as we do with many other partnerships across our region, this would be one where I hope our fellow municipalities would see the benefit to help on the capital side, knowing that the province is following through with operation funds.”
The motion was passed by council.
