Prince Edward County OPP are reminding the public to use caution and do their research when it comes to committing to home improvement contracts.
Police say they have received several reports of unapproved third parties making unsolicited contact with homeowners regarding a Canada Greener Homes Grant or similar rebates.
OPP remind residents that the Government of Canada, Natural Resources Canada and its family of brands will never solicit over the telephone, by email or go door to door asking to inspect or sell heating and cooling products.
The following tips were provided to avoid falling victim to similar scams:
- Refuse any in-home inspection from a door-to-door salesperson
- Never sign anything
- Do your research and double-check everything
- Avoid giving out personal information, online, over the phone or in person
- Report suspected scams
