If Councillor Dave O’Neil gets his way, the City of Quinte West will begin charging the OPP rent.
During budget deliberations Thursday, council was challenged with major increases from external agencies, along with grants, jumps in the cost of supplies and about a ten per cent increase in staff salaries.
Following discussion on the OPP increase, O’Neil presented a motion to council to begin charging rent for the new building.
The municipality built and paid for the site, which opened in October 2021.
The motion was amended to have a staff report come back on options.
Earlier this year the OPP presented a budget increase of 19 per cent, however, the province provided a bill reduction of $1.57 million to help offset much of that.
